Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.
The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.
Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.
This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".
Judicial Records Show Escape Risks
In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".
This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.
His son, Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
His son wrote on online platforms on Friday: "Are you going to fight for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your couch? I invite you to fight with us."
He said the gathering would be so followers could "pray for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."
Embassy Asylum Concerns
Part of the magistrate's decision was the possibility of the former president's move to embassies near the dwelling, considering that the inquiries revealed a background of planning to seek refuge through a consular facility", a statement said.
The judicial paperwork highlights that the American diplomatic mission in the capital, the capital city, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.
International Reactions
The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist American leader Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.
Bolsonaro is being held in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will experience a detention review on the next day.
Latest Court Petitions
It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with electronic monitoring.
They also petitioned that he be allowed to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he required regular treatment for respiratory ailments and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict
The former president was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the national vote to his political opponent, Lula.
High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a plot which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing the former president's case.
The plot was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the endorsement of the army and air force commanders. Lula was inaugurated without issue on 1 January 2023.
But a following week, on the eighth of January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed government buildings in the national capital, Brazil's capital.
The law enforcement intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were arrested.
The judges found that the protesters had been encouraged by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the country's army to intervene, reestablish control and return him to office.
At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence extremely harsh.
He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.
The one-time head of state called the court case a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him running in the next presidential race.
